Elliott Davis, a leading business solutions firm with nine offices across the Southeast, announces that James (Jim) Schmitz has joined the firm’s Nashville office as market leader. Schmitz comes to Elliott Davis after retiring from Regions Bank as its Middle Tennessee president in 2018.
“Jim is a pivotal addition to the Elliott Davis Nashville team,” says Rick Davis, CEO of Elliott Davis. “Both in the business and nonprofit communities, Jim has made his mark on the region and ultimately strengthened it for everyone who works and lives here. We’re confident that his leadership, market knowledge and overall business expertise will greatly benefit our firm as we seek to expand our presence throughout Middle Tennessee.”
Elliott Davis has been part of the Nashville business community for more than four years. Due to the market’s dynamic growth, the firm is increasing its investment in the region to meet the evolving needs of current and future clients. Schmitz will lead these efforts by proactively initiating, fostering and managing the organization’s business and community engagement initiatives for Nashville and surrounding areas.
“During my retirement, I decided I wanted to reengage in the business community, and Elliott Davis’ approach and vision for aggressive expansion in Nashville provided the perfect opportunity for me to do so,” says Schmitz. “I’m honored to join Elliott Davis during this period of strategic growth. Elliott Davis is among the strongest accounting and business solutions firms in the Southeast, and I look forward to helping grow the company’s client base and extend its impact and reach in Nashville and surrounding markets.”
“I’m equally excited to work with a group that’s committed to investing its time, talent and resources to help make the Nashville community an even better place to live and work,” said Schmitz.
At Region’s Bank, Schmitz oversaw operations in 15 Middle Tennessee counties for Regions Financial Corporation. Before that, Schmitz was a Regions area executive in North Florida, managing commercial real estate sales and holding positions as vice president and relationship manager. Prior to joining Regions, Schmitz spent more than 10 years in the banking and mortgage industry.
An active member in the community, Schmitz is currently vice chair of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as a mayor appointed member of the Metropolitan Housing Trust Fund. He is the immediate past board chairman for both the United Way of Metro Nashville and the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC). Additionally, he’s a board member of the Nashville Downtown Partnership, the Phi Sigma Kappa Scholarship Foundation and Citizens Saving Bank & Trust Co.
Schmitz earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of California Santa Barbara and attended graduate school at the University of Tennessee.
